Your recent security activity
Check your recent sign-ins, refused attempts and account changes, and what to do if you see something you do not recognise.
Overview
Recent sign-ins and security changes under your account's security settings lists your last 50 security events, newest first. Times are shown in US-Eastern; hover over a time to see the exact date.
Each row shows:
- When it happened;
- What happened: for example "Signed in with password", "Signed in with Google", "Password changed" or "Sign-in refused";
- Device: the browser and operating system, for example "Chrome on Windows";
- Where: the IP address the request came from. An approximate location will be added later.
Only you can see this list. It never shows anyone else's activity.
Changes made by our team
If a member of our support team changes your account (for example your plan or your account status), the row says Our team and ends with "(by our team)". For their privacy, it does not show who it was or where they were.
Refused sign-ins
A row marked Refused means someone tried to sign in to your account and was turned away, for example with a wrong password. If you see refused attempts you do not recognise:
- Change your password from your account page. This signs out every other device.
- If you signed up with Google, check your Google account's security page as well.
- Contact support if you think someone else has been using your account.
"Invalid email or password" and waiting before you can try again
After a few wrong passwords you may be asked to confirm you are a person before you can try again. After 10 wrong passwords in 15 minutes, sign-in for that e-mail address pauses for 15 minutes, and a pause that happens again soon after lasts longer (up to an hour). The sign-in page then tells you how long to wait.
This protects your account from password guessing. If you have forgotten your password, use Forgot password? on the sign-in page instead of guessing; a successful reset clears the count.
Troubleshooting
- The list is empty. Activity is recorded from the moment this feature was switched on; older sign-ins are not shown.
- I see my own sign-in from an unfamiliar IP address. Mobile networks and VPNs change your IP address often, so a new address on your own device is normal.
- I am told to wait before trying again. Wait for the time shown, or reset your password with Forgot password?.
