Ask the AI copilot about your screens, chains and watchlists
How the copilot answers questions about the page you are on, when it answers from data without AI, how it drafts changes you approve, what its confidence and data time mean, and what happens when AI is unavailable.
Overview
The copilot answers questions about OptionsScreenerPro and about the data on your screen: a symbol, an option chain, your screens, watchlists and alerts. It knows which page you are on, the symbol and expiry you are looking at, your current filters, the watchlist or screen that is open and the rows you selected, so "explain row 3" or "loosen these filters" work without repeating yourself.
Every answer shows:
- Data as of - the time of the oldest market value used, with delayed when the data is delayed. Market data on the free plans is delayed by about 15 minutes, or end of day.
- Confidence - computed from the figures the answer cites, not from the AI's own opinion. High needs two or more fresh figures; delayed, end-of-day or stale data and general explanations lower it to Medium; an answer backed by one figure or none is Low.
- Sources - small markers such as
[F1]link each figure to where it came from. The copilot cannot invent a marker: any marker the platform did not create is removed. - Sometimes two parts: From your data (figures from the platform) and Options basics (a general explanation with no figures about the symbol).
Before you start
- The copilot is part of plans that include the AI assistant. If yours does not, the copilot says so and shows the upgrade link instead of answering.
- Answers that come straight from data are free. Answers written by the AI count against your daily AI allowance (see /help/ai-usage-and-limits).
Steps
Ask a question
Open the copilot with the Ask AI button at the bottom right of any page, the Ask AI about this page... box in the header (large screens), or by typing a question in the command palette (Ctrl+K) and choosing Ask the copilot. The copilot knows the page you are on (symbol, expiry, filters, the row you clicked), keeps a separate chat for each symbol, watchlist or screen, and streams its answer; Stop ends it and New chat starts over. Changes such as creating an alert always show a confirmation card first.
- Open the copilot on any page and type a question, for example "What is the IV rank of XYZ?" or "Why is XYZ in this screen?".
- Watch the answer appear. A short status line shows while the copilot looks up data.
- Use the thumbs up or down under the answer to tell us whether it helped. A thumbs-down with a note goes to the team that reviews wrong answers.
Answers from data, without AI
Questions that the platform can answer exactly (a quote, the chain for an expiry, how many symbols pass one of your screens, your watchlist) are answered from data straight away, without calling an AI model and without using your AI allowance. These answers are labelled as data answers.
Approve a change the copilot drafts
The copilot can draft an alert, a watchlist change or a saved screen, but it never changes anything by itself.
- Ask, for example, "Alert me when XYZ IV rank goes above 80".
- The copilot shows a card with exactly what would be created.
- Click Approve (or reply yes) to create it, or Cancel (or reply no). Anything else leaves the draft to expire after 10 minutes.
Approving checks your plan limits again at that moment, and each approval is written to the audit log. Approving twice creates the item once.
Check which AI answered
Ask "Which AI answered me?" or "What can the AI see?". The copilot answers from the platform's own records, without an AI model: which providers are configured (free tiers only), which one wrote your last AI answer, how many AI answers you have left today and a summary of /legal/ai.
Example
On Screeners → Options with the filters IV rank above 60 and the symbol XYZ selected, ask "Explain row 1". The copilot uses the selected row, looks up the figures for XYZ and answers under From your data with markers such as [F1], a Data as of line marked delayed, and a Medium confidence because the data is delayed.
FAQs
Does the copilot remember what I asked? For 30 minutes, it remembers the questions of the conversation so "and the next expiry?" works. It never remembers market figures: it looks them up again each time, so you never see an old price presented as current.
Can the copilot place trades? No. OptionsScreenerPro has no trading tools and the copilot cannot create one.
Why did the copilot ask me a question back? When a question could mean more than one thing (which expiry, which watchlist), it asks instead of guessing. On a chain or option page it uses the expiry you are looking at, as long as that expiry has not passed.
What if I ask whether to buy or sell? The copilot does not give investment advice or predict prices. A question such as Should I buy TSLA calls tomorrow? gets a short note saying so, with data questions you can ask instead (the quote, the option chain, unusual activity). This works even when AI answers are switched off.
Can I create a watchlist from the chat? Yes. Type Create a watchlist called Earnings plays or Add AAPL to my watchlist. The copilot shows a card with the change; nothing happens until you approve it. This works even when AI answers are switched off.
Troubleshooting
- "AI explanations are temporarily unavailable" - no AI provider answered. Data answers still work; try again later.
- "You've used today's AI answers" - your daily AI allowance is used up. Data answers still work; the allowance resets the next trading day.
- "The AI copilot is paused by an administrator" - the copilot is switched off for everyone for now. Screens, alerts and data keep working.
- "I could not find that in your account" - the watchlist, screen or alert is not yours or no longer exists.
- "This is read-only while viewing as this user" - staff viewing your account as you can ask questions but can never change anything.
