Most active options report

Ranks underlyings by total option volume across their chain, with the call and put split, call share and put/call ratio.

Reviewed 2026-11-07

Overview

The Most active options report ranks stocks and ETFs by how many option contracts traded across their whole chain this session. It is the symbol-level view of option activity, with the call and put split next to the total.

The data delay depends on your plan and is shown on every view: the as-of time and the delayed label sit above the results. On the Free plan reports show the previous session.

How the report is built

  • Total option volume = the latest session volume of every contract in the chain, added up (never summed across snapshots).
  • Only symbols with option volume greater than 0. Sorted by total option volume.
  • Call share and put/call ratio describe activity only - they do not say whether traders are bullish or bearish.

Before you start

Any signed-in plan can open the report from Research → Reports. Your plan decides how fresh the data is and how much history you can read. CSV export needs a plan that includes it.

Steps

  1. Open Research → Reports, choose the Volume family (or type "Most active options" in Search reports) and open Most active options.
  2. The report runs straight away with its default filters. The as-of time and delayed label are shown above the grid.
  3. Change any filter (for example pick one symbol) and press Run to refresh the grid.
  4. Choose Save as screen to keep your variant under Research → Saved Screens, where you can schedule it or turn it into an alert.
  5. Use Export CSV to download the rows (plans with CSV export).

Columns and metrics

ColumnWhat it means
SymbolThe underlying stock or ETF.
TypeStock or ETF.
LastLast price (stock reports: the latest stock price).
Total Option VolumeSession volume summed over every contract of the chain (latest snapshot per contract, never summed across snapshots).
Call VolumeSession volume summed over the chain's calls.
Put VolumeSession volume summed over the chain's puts.
Call ShareCall volume / (call volume + put volume). An activity share, not a direction signal.
Put/Call (Vol)Put volume / call volume across the chain.

Percentages are stored as fractions and displayed as percentages (0.05 is shown as 5 %). An unknown value shows as "-", never as 0.

How to read it

  • Total Option Volume tells you which chains are busiest. Compare it with the symbol's usual level - an ETF that is always at the top is less interesting than a stock that rarely appears.
  • Call Share of 0.70 (70 %) means seven in ten contracts traded were calls.
  • Put/Call (Vol) above 1 means more puts traded than calls. Puts are also used to hedge stock holdings, so a high ratio is not by itself a bearish signal.

Example

Illustrative only - the symbol and numbers are invented.

XYZ: Total Option Volume 250,000, Call Volume 150,000, Put Volume 100,000, Call Share 60 %, Put/Call (Vol) 0.67, Last $100.

Using it in your research

  • Build a daily list of the chains with the most option activity and add the unfamiliar names to a watchlist.
  • Track how a symbol's put/call ratio changes from day to day rather than reading one day in isolation.
  • Open a busy symbol in Daily volume (one symbol selected) to see which contracts carried the activity.

Treat every row as a starting point for your own research, not as a signal. Volume and open interest never say whether a trade was a buy or a sell.

Troubleshooting

A well-known symbol is missing

Only symbols in the covered universe with option volume this session are listed. Check the symbol in the Stocks screener.

The report shows "No Records Found"

The filters may be too narrow for the session, or the session has only just opened. Widen a threshold, clear the symbol, or check the as-of time to see which session you are reading. On the Free plan you read the previous session.

Educational information, not investment advice. Market data is delayed (or end of day) and labelled as such; nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
